Developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) ensures that we are meeting children where they are at, even if their abilities do not match what we think should happen at their chronoligcal age. Ensuring that activities are developmentally appropriate is not only ethical, but it can help reduce stress and behaviours as a result. DAP can occur across all grades and examples will be provided for Pre-K - 12. Themes will focus on becoming competent in facilitating activities at the appropriate level, individualized instruction, how DAP can reduce stress for children and adults, and studying specific diagnoses that may call for a greater knowledge of DAP.
